cyanotype
Cyanotype is a magical process for me. It is one of the most original forms of photography. It works without a camera, is exposed to sunlight and developed with water. During this process, the photogram gradually and miraculously appears in a magnificent spectrum of different shades of blue. Depending on the application of the sensitising liquid, the type of paper, the intensity of the sun and the exposure time, something unique emerges each time. At the same time, cyanotype gives me a kind of X-ray view of natural phenomena and also of my folds – it illuminates them and opens up completely new perspectives.
The technique was made famous by the botanist Anna Atkins (1799 – 1871), who used it for her scientific purposes. She published the first book illustrated with photographs and thus wrote photographic history.
